The Bodhi tree is known in some cultures to be a symbolic representation
of the individual's journey.
The seed starts out tiny and then grows to be open and free. They
say this is how a person should keep their mind and heart.
The tree is rooted in the ground, but grows beyond the ground as it
experiences the environment, learns to care about it, and ultimately leaves
it's limitations behind and reaches out towards the sky.
